The dwindling crude oil
prices in the international market has caused more job losses in Nigeria than other oil producing and exporting countries in the world.
National President of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers Union of Nigeria (NUPENG), Comrade Achese Igwe, who said this in an interview with newsmen in Okrika, Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State, yesterday, urged the Federal Government to live up to contractual agreements and call the international oil companies (10Cs) to order to avoid the sacking of more Nigerians.
Achese also said that NUPENG may consider with drawing its services, if the companies refuse to halt the laying off of more Nigerians.
Meanwhile, the NUPENG president has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to convene an economic summit to discuss the problems confronting the nation’s economy.
Achese, who is also the Deputy National president of the Ajaero faction of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), also called on the present to ensure that good governance is the primary focus of his administration.
He said that the fight against corruption was laudable but should not be allowed to distract the administration from ensuring that Nigerians feel the impact of good governance.
The NUPENG president also called on the president to ensure that billions of Naira recovered from looters are put into the economy to ensure that ordinary people feel the impact of the administration.
He described subsidy as the highest level of fraud and denied insinuations that the administration has removed subsidy.
According to him, the Federal Government must not only address the subsidy regime but refineries must be made to function while the vandalisation of pipelines must be checked.
