NLNG’s Train Project Set To Commence

There are strong indica
tions that the suspended train seven project of the Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) will soon come on stream.
Already, designs of the project is being reviewed following delay it suffered from the immediate past administration, which had sought for the take -off of the Brass NLNG project. General Manager, Production, NLNG, Chima Isilebo, gave the hint when he played host to lawmaker representing Bonny Constituency in the Rivers State House of Assembly, Hon Abinye Blessing Pepple at Bonny in Bonny Local Government Area, recently.
In the words of Isilebo, “we are reviewing designs now because the business and market have all changed. For now what is holding the project is not from the outside.”
Responding on why the firm prefers to ferry its Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) gas to Lagos before distribution to other parts of the country, Isilebo argued that lack of receptacle and facility to store the product is not available in Rivers State.
He maintained that Lagos had facility and jetties to receive the product hence the gas is sent there.
However, he assured that when once such facility is made available in Rivers the gas would be distributed from Port Harcourt, as he called for the government and business interests to collaborate to build a receptacle in the state.
Earlier, House of Assembly member, Hon Abinye Blessing Pepple, had challenged the NLNG to build an LPG plant in Bonny so the people of the area can benefit from their resource. Pepple decried a situation where the gas is sent to Lagos before being sold in other parts of the country and stated that was not fair as it sidelines the people, noting that if such facility is provided it will create employment and transform the area. The lawmaker also called on the company to review its plan to site the dry dock in Badagry Lagos, arguing that, “Bonny and Onne have enough land to accommodate the project, and besides, it will create sustainable development in our area.”
