NCC Boosts Educational Excellence, Donates Books To RIVPOLY
In recognition of the
academic excellence, educational endowment and emerging commercial ventures that abound in Rivers State, the management of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has donated books worth millions of naira to the Rivers State Polythemic, now called Ken Saro Wiwa Polythenic.
Making the donations on behalf of the NCC at the Ken Sarowiwa Polythenic, Wednesday in Bori the Commission’s Deputy Director Policy and Competition, Dr Henry Nkemadu said the NCC was committed to sustaining growth in the telecoms industry adding that such feat can only be available through quality education and willingness of the nation’s undergraduates to make themselves eventually qualified to favourably compete in the global space.
According to him, 87 ICT/Telecom Engineering Books have been carefully selected to the right class of future leaders of the institutions so as to stimulate their interest in reading and also reward the willing students with technical skills to compete in the global market.
Dr Nkemadu opined that it was the commission’s belief that the books would provide the needed guidance in ICT/Telecommunications and urged the institution to put good use of the books for the present future students of the polythenic.
He used the opportunity to inform the institution’s management that the donation of books initiative embarked upon by the commission was in its response to the support for capacity building aimed at supporting public libraries adding that over ten higher institutions across the six geo-political zones across the country have so far benefited from this gesture.
“The commission in 2005 also established the NCC library for use of researchers and undergraduate students from various tertiary institutions across the country. It is important to note that the right to development is shared by all people. If relevant information is not accessible, it is impossible for individuals and communities to become aware of important aspects of their situation, analyse it and take action to improve it.
Denying access to information and knowledge system to certain parts of the population also denies them the right to participate in their own development” he added.
Earlier in his address, the Rector, Ken Saro Wiwa Polythenic, Engr Daboikiabo-Princewill expressed gratitude to the NCC for the gesture adding that the commission had in the time past donated set of computers to the institution.
He called for the continued relationship between the polythenic and the commission and assured that the books would be effectively use for the purposed they were donated.
