The former Rivers State
Deputy Governor, Engr Tele Ikuru, has said that his former boss, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi left him high and dry at the end of his service.
Ikuru who disclosed this at a service to thank God for his tenure held in Andoni Local Government Area of the state explained that in spite of his serving as deputy governor for two tenures, Governor Amaechi’s administration lasted, his boss did not think it appropriate to give him any parting gift.
He revealed that he returned excess cash to the state coffers at the end of every assignment he was given, remarking that transparency was his watchword while in service.
“I served the government for seven years. I was with Omehia for five months. At the end of the seven years and seven months, Amaechi did not think that I deserved any parting gift despite the fact that in the course of this administration, by reason of the office I occupied, I returned several monies to him valued at over N2 billion cash at different times during one are assignment or another”, he said.
Ikuru further stated that by reason of his contribution, he also saved not less than N100 billion for the state government over the period.
“At the end of seven years and seven months, my boss left me high and dry, nothing and no penny to go home with”, said Ikuru.
Ikuru, it would be recalled, parted ways with the former governor few days to the presidential election as he decamped from the then ruling party in the state, All Progressives Congress (APC).
He had announced that his reason for dumping APC was to strongly support, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan who is his kinsman from the Niger Delta region.
