NSCDC Parades Two Suspects Over N6m Fraud
The Nigeria Security and
Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), last Friday, in Abuja, paraded two suspected job racketeers for defrauding desperate job seekers of N6 million.
The FCT Commandant, Mr Aminu Kofar- Soro, who paraded the suspects, said that the suspects were arrested at Gwagwalada, FCT with fake NSCDC appointment letters.
He said that 35 year old, Ibrahim Usman, who works with the Sharia Court in Gwagwalada and his friend, 33 year old Shuaibu Yunusa, were arrested following a tip off from members of the public.
Kofar-Soro explained that Usman had been duping unsuspecting members of the public with a promise to get them job in the corps.
“We have arrested two suspects as part of our ongoing clamp down on job racketeers, with fake NSCDC appointment letters and documentation process, from Gwagwalada and one of them is a civil servant with the Gwagwalada Sharia court.
According to the reports, about 18 fake appointment letters were recovered from him and so much has been paid into another account which we are still investigating to know who exactly is receiving the money,” he said.
He stressed that the corps was not recruiting at the moment and warned members of the public to desist from patronising these fraudsters.
“It is very unfortunate and I want to appeal to members of the public to desist from patronising these fraudsters or paying money through any website.
“I want to reiterate here that the NSCDC is not recruiting for now and when we are about to recruit it will be announced by the board through the print and broadcast media,“he said.
He said that the suspects would be charged to court next week for prosecution in line with the laws of the land.
The commandant however denied any involvement or connivance of members of staff.
He warned that any member of the corps caught would be immediately dismissed from service.

BVN Enrolments Rise 6% To 67.8m In 2025 — NIBSS
The Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement System (NIBSS) has said that Bank Verification Number (BVN) enrolments rose by 6.8 per cent year-on-year to 67.8 million as at December 2025, up from 63.5 million recorded in the corresponding period of 2024.
In a statement published on its website, NIBSS attributed the growth to stronger policy enforcement by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the expansion of diaspora enrolment initiatives.
NIBSS noted that the expansion reinforces the BVN system’s central role in Nigeria’s financial inclusion drive and digital identity framework.
Another major driver, the statement said, was the rollout of the Non-Resident Bank Verification Number (NRBVN) initiative, which allows Nigerians in the diaspora to obtain a BVN remotely without physical presence in the country.
A five-year analysis by NIBSS showed consistent growth in BVN enrolments, rising from 51.9 million in 2021 to 56.0 million in 2022, 60.1 million in 2023, 63.5 million in 2024 and 67.8 million by December 2025. The steady increase reflects stronger compliance with biometric identity requirements and improved coverage of the national banking identity system.
However, NIBSS noted that BVN enrolments still lag the total number of active bank accounts, which exceeded 320 million as of March 2025.
The gap, it explained, is largely due to multiple bank accounts linked to single BVNs, as well as customers yet to complete enrolment, despite the progress recorded.
