Four implementing Agencies of the State Empowerment and Expenditure for Results (SEEFOR) programme have been presented with vehicles by the Rivers State Government.
The agencies include the Rivers State Ministry of Education, Rivers State Waste Management Agency, Rivers State Road Maintenance Agency and the state Integrated Financial Management Information System (SIFEMIS) under the office of the Accountant General of the state.
The Commissioner, Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Mr Gogo Levi Charles, said that the vehicles were to further empower the agencies to effectively discharge their functions in the implementation of the projects.
Charles said that, with the delivery of the vehicles, the government expects them to ensure proper monitoring and supervision of those areas in which they have been assigned responsibilities.
The commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr Austin Orlu Orlu, particularly said that the vehicles will enable the Ministry of Education to properly supervise the technical and vocational aspects of the programme, while the one for waste management agency will ensure proper evacuation of refuse from the streets of Port Harcourt.
He urged them to put the vehicles into proper use as well as ensure their proper maintenance.
Also speaking, the state coordinator of SEEFOR programme, Mr Precious Amos said that the ceremony was geared towards better service delivery as far as the programme was concerned.
Amos also urged the benefitting ministries and agencies to ensure proper usage of the vehicles. Responding on behalf of the benefitting agencies, Mr Ala O Ndu of the Ministry of Finance, thanked the government for the vehicles, and pledged that they would be put to proper use.
The SEEFOR programme is a world Bank-assisted programme to check the issue of youth unemployment in the Niger Delta.
