Ikwerre Youths, Women Endorse Buhari, Peterside
Ahead of the 28 and April 11 general elections, women and youth of Ikwerre ethnic nationality in Rivers State under the auspices of Ikwerre Youth Movement (IYM) and Ikwerre Women Forum (IWF) have endorse the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Major General Muhammadu Buhari and the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Dr Dakuku Peterside and their running mates Prof Yemi Osinbajo and Hon Honourable Asita respectively position.
The groups made their position known during a special praise prayer and worship for Dakuku Peterside at Isiokpo headquarters of Ikwerre Local Government Area, last Saturday.
A statement signed and read by the presidents of the two groups, Azubike Nwanjoku for IYM, and Victoria Nyeche for IWF, expressed optimism that the APC government would end the era of insecurity, impunity and corruption in the country.
The groups dissociated themselves from the greed and selfishness of a few Ikwerres who would want to retain power in Ikwerre against natural justice.
The youth and women, who turn out massively to welcome Peterside and his running mate, Hon Asita, promised to give APC bloc votes during the presidential and governorship elections in the state.
They described Peterside as a stable, humble, visionary and considerate leader, whose cosmopolitan background inspires hope.
The statement said ‘In this era of insecurity and lawlessness, it is only natural to trust a man known for his humility and broadmindedness.
Peterside is well known as a moderate and simple, mature politician, who represents all shades of interests, including the Ikwerres”.
Responding, the APC governorship candidate, Dr Dakuku Peterside, assured the Ikwerres of rapid development in the area. He listed youth and women empowerement, scholarship, and job opportunities for the people of the area if elected governor.
He also promised to fund small scale business in the private sector across the state, adding that all uncompleted projects by Governor Amaechi would be completed in Ikwerre land.
