More Tributes Trickle In For Muna Obiekwe
Barely two weeks af
ter the demise of Nollywood’s A list actor, Muna Obiekwe, more tributes have continued to trail his death particularly from his colleagues in the make belief profession. It would be recalled that on Sunday January 18th 2014, the nation and the movie clan were thrown into mourning with the painful death of the award winning actor whose face has graced over 200 movie posters.
The handsome actor who played both good and bad roles in Nollywood movies passed away at the prime age of 36 years with a wife and four kids to survive him. According to our source, Muna, a Theatre Arts graduate died following his long battle with kidney disease.
It was gathered that Muna, an orphan had a grandmother, Mrs Vera Kanu, who confessed that the late actor was addicted to alcohol. According to her, all his colleagues knew about his heavily drinking habit but it never affected his job performance and he tried to hide the habit from his close associates.
Muna, who joined Nollywood in 2001, has featured in countless movies such as “Faces of Beauty,” Songs of Solomon”, “He Lives in Me”, Songs of Sorrow”, Enemies in Love”, It is Juliet or No One”, “Wasted Effort”, etc. He has also featured in one of Nollywood’s most talked about movie with Dopo Jibola titled “Dirty Secret”.
In her tribute to Muna, the President, Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), Ibinabo Fiberesima-Ebuka said, “I celebrate Muna, you came into life’s stage, played your role well, you shone like a million stars, you gave us laughter, you gave us joy, you lifted up the dark corners of our young sphere with your smiles. As you go ahead of us, we bid you adieu.”
Jim Iyke: “Candle in the Wind, Adieu Bro. Find rest on God’s bossom, words fail me.
Genevieve Nnaji: “My heart goes out to Muna’s family and loved ones. He was a gifted actor with a good ones. Rest in perfect peace, Muna Obiekwe, you will be missed.
Ini Edo: “O Lord, I am heart broken, to say the least, I know we cannot question God, but I cannot help this”.
Chika Ike: “RIP to my dear colleague, Muna Obiekwe, you will live in our hearts forever”.
Stella Damasus: “This is too painful please rest in peace.”
Van Vicker: “OMG! When death strikes Nollywood or the African Film industry stars ‘I shake’, but I know he is in control. Muna my brother, I had the opportunity to work with you twice in my career, you did inspire me to be at my best, RIP.”

R&B star, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has recounted the early-career challenges she faced, revealing that she was once booed out of the stage while performing at a school event.
Speaking in an interview with Newsmen, the Crazy Tings crooner shared that she wasn’t only booed but was also harassed with plastic bottles.
“I remember one time I was going to perform at my school as an up-and-coming singer and I thought I was going to receiving a standing ovation.
“But I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me,” she recalled.
Tems explained that despite the embarrassing incident and other such rejections, she remained determined to pursue a career in music.
The Tide Entertainment reports that Tems admitted that some of the initial rejections she faced could be due to her conviction to stick to her originality instead of doing covers or familiar sounds like most of her peers.
The Grammy-winning singer said looking back now, she is glad that she didn’t compromise her style despite the initial pressures.
A close associate of late singer Mohbad, Primeboy, has appealed for the artiste’s burial nearly three years after his death.
According to him, Mohbad’s body remains in the mortuary since September 12, 2023, pending burial arrangements.
The Tide Entertainment reports that in a statement Primeboy urged the family, public, and government to permit the burial, stating, “It’s been almost three years since Mohbad left us. His body is still in the mortuary. I’m begging the family, I’m begging the public, I’m begging the government, please let’s bury our brother. He deserves a befitting burial.”
It would be recalled that Mohbad’s death sparked public outrage, protests, and investigations. Ongoing autopsy examinations, police inquiries, and legal proceedings have delayed burial arrangements amid family disagreements and public scrutiny.
