FRSC Prosecutes 378, Convicts 343 In Delta, Edo,Anambra,
The Federal Road
Safety Corps (FRSC) said on Monday, that it prosecuted 378 traffic offenders in its special mobile courts in Edo, Delta and Anambra during the Christmas festivities. The Zonal Commander in-charge of the states, Mr Charles Akpabio, told newsmen in Onitsha that 343 of the offenders were convicted of various offences.
Akpabio said the courts also discharged and acquitted 35 motorists after they satisfied the magistrates.
“The special mobile courts sat at various points on the Ore-Benin axis; the Benin-Agbor axis, the Agbor-Issele Uku axis and the Asaba-Onitsha axis.
“The offences included speeding, dangerous driving, over-taking, tyre violation and use of phone while driving, lane indiscipline/route violation, seatbelt violation and child safety violation.
“Commercial drivers, who are in the habit of road obstruction through wrong parking, overloading and lack of passengers’ manifests, were dealt with accordingly,’’ he said.
Akpabio said the zone redeployed the three sector commanders in the zone to take charge of difficult axis of the major roads.
“The redeployment of my top commanders is to improve on service delivery and to keep the road as well as officers and men on close supervision,’’ he said.
The commander, however, noted that there was more discipline on the part of motorists during the Christmas than before.
He said there was unprecedented movement of vehicles on December 26 on the Ore-Benin-Agbor-Issele Uku-Asaba-Onitsha road and more-than-average compliance by motorists to lane and route discipline.
“It is clear to us and even the road users that FRSC enlightenment and enforcement actions are working to keep our road safer for all,’’ he said.
