TUC Tasks Musicians On Public Image
The Rivers State Council of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has urged the leadership of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) to educate its members on the need to improve their public image through decent behaviour.
The State Vice Chairman of the council, Comrade Clement Onyesom who stated this during the state delegates conference of the association in Port Harcourt said that the association should show that musicians are not school drop outs, but responsible members of the society.
He described the conference as one of the best as far as the history of PMAN is concerned in the state.
“It is the first time PMAN is having a well articulated state delegates conference. “It means that they are in the right direction”, he said.
The State TUC vice chairman stressed the need for the association to amend its constitution to increase the tenure of elected officers as the current one year tenure is too short for the executive to make any difference in the affairs of the association.
He told them to always invite guest speakers to their congresses to lecture them on their rights as musicians and urged them to support the executive to enable it achieve its objectives.
Also speaking, the national officers incharge of State Affairs, Mr. Aita Bonny said that no one would hold the union to ransom again and warned them not to allow themselves to be used to destabilize the association.
Mr. Bonny said that the delegates conference was in line with the constitution of the association, stressing that any other committee was illegal.
In her post election speech, Lady Ibitoru Green who was re-elected for a second term pledged to initiate new policies that would improve the public rating of PMAN in the state.
