Firm Explains Promotion of Indigenous Arts
As part of its corporate
social responsibilities to its host communities and society in general, the management of Total E & P Nigeria Limited has assured its commitment to arts development and providing a fledging platform for the exploration of creative talents in Nigeria.
Deputy managing director, Port Harcourt district of the company, Mr Nicolas Brunet gave the assurance while declaring open the 2014 edition of Arts Exhibition organized by Total E & P in Port Harcourt at the weekend.
Brunet said the Arts Exhibition which was organized under the theme; “solidarity and sharing” was aimed at promoting the indigenous culture of Nigeria by supporting indigenous artists , who “through their creative imaginations are making enlightened social commentaries about our environment and society.
He pointed out that the promotion of Nigeria’s unique works of arts was part of the core values of the company in contributing to social capital development by providing avenues to build relationships, network and patronage for indigenous arts.
In his address, a university Don and arts exponent, Prof Frank Ogiomah, described Arts as a critical component of humanity, noting that the theme of the arts exhibition aptly defines the obvious regarding the status of arts in civilsations; that art yield to solidarity among cultures.
He commended the management of Total E & P for the exhibition, noting that the yearly event has provided indepth insight into contemporary Nigerian culture, both in visual and performance arts.
He emphasized to need for continuous exploration of Nigeria’s diverse culture as a basis of promoting sustainable peace and development in the country.
