Nigerian Artistes Top AFRIMMA Nominees List

watchers have argued that for now, the creative industry in Nigeria is like America to Africa and many African-based artistes emulate their Nigerian counterparts in a bid to succeed in their career.
The recent nominations revealed by the organisers of African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA) revealed the strength of dominance by Nigerians. Among the Nigerian nominees into the 26 categories of the reward scheme include Flavor, Davido and Wizkid, who are contenders in the Artiste Of The Year category.
The trio who will be battling one another in that category will also contend with other artistes namely: Diamond (Tanzania), Sarkodi (Ghana), Mafikizolo (South Africa), Anselmo Ralph: a dor do cupido (Angola) and Jagwa (Kenya).
The highly competitive list also has four Nigerian acts namely, Wizkid, Nyanya, Davido and Flavor, two Ghanaian artistes, Sarkodi and Shatta Wale, an Ivorian act and DJ Arafat competing in the best male West African category.
In the best female West African category, the battle will be among Nigeria’s Tiwa Savage and Chidinma. Ivory Coast’s Teeya, Benin Republic’s Sessima and Ghana’s Efya.
Other categories of the award include best male East Africa to be contested by Diamond, Platnumz (Tanzania), Ben Pol (Tanzania), Bebe Cool (Uganda), Wyre (Kenya), Navido (Uganda) and Jackie Gosee (Ethiopia). Best male Central Africa with Fally Pupa (Dr Congo), Stanley Enow (Cameroon), Ferre Gola (Congo), Privato Niyintunze (Burundi) Anselmo Ralph (Angola) and Sine (Cameroon).
According to the founder /CEO of Big A entertainment, Mr Anderson Obiagu. The event will not only celebrate the Music of Africa, but celebrate the unique sounds, culture and artistes who tell the story of our country as a whole. He stressed that AFRIMMA represents growth, celebration and it is pushing the culture and music of Africa continuously forward for the better.
It was gathered that the event slated to hold on July 26th 2014, at the Eiseman Centre, Richardson Texas, will feature spectacular performances from top artistes from Africa including a duet from hip hop star, 2 Face Idibia, and Grammy award winning rapper Faheem Najia aka T. Pain.
Mr. Obiagu disclosed that the event will be hosted by comedian, Basket Mouth and actress Juliet Abrahim. Other artistes who will perform at the event include Iyanya, Stanley Enow, Flavour, Davido, Diamond Platinum, Fally Pupa, Wyre and Marian Chemmoss among others.
It was learnt that already Arik Air has signed as a sponsor, the Mayor of Richardson, Laura Maczka, has endorsed her support for AFRIMMA, while international television power house, Sound City, has signed in as media partners and will broadcast the event live through out Africa.

They Booed, Threw Bottles At Me – Tems Recounts
R&B star, Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has recounted the early-career challenges she faced, revealing that she was once booed out of the stage while performing at a school event.
Speaking in an interview with Newsmen, the Crazy Tings crooner shared that she wasn’t only booed but was also harassed with plastic bottles.
“I remember one time I was going to perform at my school as an up-and-coming singer and I thought I was going to receiving a standing ovation.
“But I got booed. They even threw plastic bottles at me,” she recalled.
Tems explained that despite the embarrassing incident and other such rejections, she remained determined to pursue a career in music.
The Tide Entertainment reports that Tems admitted that some of the initial rejections she faced could be due to her conviction to stick to her originality instead of doing covers or familiar sounds like most of her peers.
The Grammy-winning singer said looking back now, she is glad that she didn’t compromise her style despite the initial pressures.

Primeboy Pleads For Mohbad’s Burial
A close associate of late singer Mohbad, Primeboy, has appealed for the artiste’s burial nearly three years after his death.
According to him, Mohbad’s body remains in the mortuary since September 12, 2023, pending burial arrangements.
The Tide Entertainment reports that in a statement Primeboy urged the family, public, and government to permit the burial, stating, “It’s been almost three years since Mohbad left us. His body is still in the mortuary. I’m begging the family, I’m begging the public, I’m begging the government, please let’s bury our brother. He deserves a befitting burial.”
It would be recalled that Mohbad’s death sparked public outrage, protests, and investigations. Ongoing autopsy examinations, police inquiries, and legal proceedings have delayed burial arrangements amid family disagreements and public scrutiny.
