MMA2 Gets New Escalators, Automated Car Park
Bi-Courtney Aviation
Services Limited (BASL) Operator of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2) Ikeja, Lagos under the concession agreement, has begun the installation of new escalators at the terminal to lessen the burden of passengers and other airport users.
The move, according to BASL, is part of its determination to change the face of terminal operations in the country and bring it to world standard.
The spokesman of BASL, Mr Steve Omotale said in a statement that the multi-storey car park (MSCP) has been fully automated in a bid to make the use of the facility easier.
MMA2 is the only airport terminal in the country with an MSCP, which can accommodate about 800 parked cars at once.
He said two new mitsulift–escalators are being installed to replace the old ones at MMA2, noting that this was part of the infrastructure renewal scheme earmarked by the firm in the terminal.
Mr Omotale added that BASL has positioned some of its employees close to the installation site to give information and also assist passengers and other airport users to ensure a hitch free exercise.
Such employees, who adorn orange-colour reflective jackets are strategically positioned close to the escalator landing to courteously direct passengers and airport users to use other alternative routes within the terminal to their destinations, while the multi-million dollar project is on-going, he said.
According to him, “we therefore, appeal to all airport users to follow their instructions, while we will do all that is humanly possible to complete the installation sooner than expected.
He explained how the new automation at the car park works, with each of the three floors of the four-floor car part having a full automated entry and exit barriers and column gates.
The new system comes with automated time stamped ticket and various electronic applications, such as windscreen chip, access card and drive touch bottom. The car part manager has a control system managing all points and an IP phone for communication from his office to the cash points and entry point. This has eliminated the manual ticketing of the car park users,” he explained.

Aviation Professionals Want Agencies Boards’ Inauguration
As a measure to curb corruption and restore accountability, the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), has called on the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, to push for the urgent formation and inauguration of governing boards for all other aviation agencies.
ANAP’s Secretary General, AbdulRasaq Saidu, made this call at the weekend when interacting with aviation correspondents, in reaction to recent inauguration of Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
Keyamo had recently inaugurated the FAAN board, more than six months after its members were appointed by President Bola Tinubu, where Dr. Umar Ganduje was named Board Chairman, with FAAN’s Managing Director, Olubunmi Kuku, as the Vice Chairman.
Other board members include representatives from the Ministries of Justice, Defence, Tourism, and Aviation, as well as professionals from the Nigerian College of Aviation Technology, and FAAN’s legal department.
The ANAP scribe there urged the aviation Minister not to stop at FAAN but to ensure that all aviation parastatals are given functional boards to restore order and credibility to the sector.
He, however, commended Keyamo for recently inaugurating the board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria but stressed that more needed to be done.
Saidu also warned that the continued delay in constituting boards for other aviation agencies creates room for unchecked abuses, including illegal contracts, fraudulent employment practices, and mismanagement.
“The absence of governing boards violates the enabling Acts that established these agencies. Only properly constituted boards can enforce discipline, ensure due process in decision-making, and provide oversight to prevent corruption”, Saidu said.
He emphasised that the aviation unions, including ANAP, have consistently raised concerns about poor governance and lack of transparency within the aviation system.
He called on President Bola Tinubu to act swiftly by appointing board members for all relevant agencies, in the interest of fairness and aviation safety.
Saidu also tackled the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, for failing to inaugurate any boards during his eight-year tenure, despite appointments being made by former President Muhammadu Buhari.
“ANAP raised the alarm several times under Sirika’s leadership, but nothing changed. That lapse has continued under the current administration, and it must be addressed now”, Saidu stated.
