Bomb Scare Rocks Enugu Market …Traders Close Shops
Traders at the ever busy, Obollo Afor Market in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State scampered for safety yesterday following the discovery of a device suspected to be a bomb. As soon as the alarm was raised, traders and buyers vacated the area. An eye witness told newsmen that the device was a motorcycle battery with two strings of wires attached to it.
According to him, a detachment of policemen, who came to the scene of the suspected bomb, stayed their distance while pointing at the spot.
He added that some of them made phone calls, probably to alert some of their colleagues about the discovery. The source could not say when the device was discovered but said the news shook the market at the early hours of the morning, especially the yam section.
There is fear that the said bomb may have been planted by one of the members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect.
According to the source, “the possibility that the suspected bomb could be the handiwork of the dreaded Boko Haram is that Obollo Afor is at the borders of Enugu State and Benue State and the Boko Haram may have chosen Obollo Afor to launch their attacks on South East”.
When contacted to comment on the incident, the Police spokesman in Enugu State, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu said he was yet to get information concerning the suspected bomb.
“I am not aware but I’ll find out”, he stated.
