Wamakko Denies Plan To Return To PDP
Sokoto State Government yesterday denied reports that the State Governor, Aliju Wamakko would return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Our correspondent reports that the denial in contained in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information, Alhaji Danladi Bako, in Sokoto.
Wamakko had recently defected to the All Progressives Congress for PDP with his teeming supporters.
His Deputy, Alhaji Muktari Shagari, however, refused to defect to the APC.
Twenty seven out of the 30 members of the State House of Assembly also defected to the APC, while three lawmakers restated their loyalty to PDP.
“The attention of the State Governor has been drawn to statements in one of the national dailies quoting the Governor of Niger as saying that the five governors that left PDP for APC are returning as soon as the PDP is restructured,
“Governor Wamakko hereby restates categorically and undoubtedly that he, along with his teeming supporters, have no such plans.
“He repeats and restates his avowed commitment to the cause he has embarked on based on the unshaken belief that the APC is the platform on which social justice, equity, equality and good governance can be better achieves in this great country”.
The statement said Wamakko had restated that his decision to defect to the APC was taken with the “fear of Allah at heart and in response to the desires and wishes of the electorate that put him in office”.
Governor Wamakko, the statement also said, advised the Niger State Governor to desist from making statements on behalf of other governors, adding that no such decision was taken at any time in the recent past.

RSG INAUGURATES ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY COMMITTEE
The Rivers State Government has inaugurated a Central Planning Committee to organize the celebration of the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day (AFRD) in the State.
The committee was formally inaugurated by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba in Port Harcourt, last Thursday.
Dr Anabraba who also serves as Chairman of the Committee
highlighted the State Government’s deep appreciation for the sacrifices of Nigeria’s fallen heroes who laid down their lives for the nation’s peace and unity.
“These heroes have given their lives for the security and peace of our nation and deserve to be celebrated. The Armed Forces Remembrance Day is an opportunity to show our gratitude for their sacrifice,” he said.
Dr. Anabraba further extended recognition to all Security Agencies in the State, emphasizing the importance of the event in appreciating their contributions to national security and sovereignty.
The annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, observed on January 15 across the country is dedicated to remember Nigeria’s departed soldiers and honouring the nation’s veterans.
