Ex-Commissioner Pays N3.5m Ransom For Son’s Release
A former Commis
sioner in Bayelsa State, under the administration of Chief Timpre Sylva, reportedly paid the sum of N3.5m to secure the release of his six-years-old son who was kidnapped last week.
The victim, Okali whose father, Godknows Powell, a former Commissioner for Local Government and Community Development, was abducted while returning from a church service with his mother.
The kidnappers had initially demanded the sum of N50m and later reduced the amount to N5m but the ex-commissioner who at a time was the chairman of Yenagoa local government insisted that he could only afford N3.5m.
A family source who pleaded anonymity, said Okali was released at an undisclosed location in Owerri, the capital of Imo State.
