ASHON, NASS Partner On Local Investment Law
The Association of Stock
broking Houses of Nigeria (ASHON) is collaborating with the National Assembly to educate members on local investment environment for them to make informed laws.
ASHON President, Mr Emeka Madubuike, disclosed this to Journalists in Lagos on Thursday.
He said that such education would bring members of the National Assembly on the same pedestal with operators about market operations.
Madubuike said that the forum would strengthen legislators’ understanding of the dynamism of the capital market and the global investment practices.
He said that such education would enable members of the National Assembly to be in position to appreciate developments in the market and exchange ideas with stakeholders.
Madubuike said that the association would meet on October 30 to finalise arrangements and the tentative date for the forum.
He said that the association would also organise town hall meetings with critical shareholders to increase local investor participation in the market.
According to him, the town hall meetings would be held in major cities to educate retail investors on the potential of the nation’s bourse.
The House of Representatives had directed that the budgetary allocations to the Securities and Exchange Commission’s (SEC) in the 2013 Appropriation Bill allocation be withheld.
This followed the decision of the lower chamber not to have anything to do with SEC until the removal of Ms Arunma Oteh as the director-general.
