Broker Hails Okonjo-Iweala On Economy
An Abuja based insur
ance broker, Mr Angus Uzoamaka, says the recent economic reforms embarked on by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, have stabilised the economy and accelerated development.
Uzoamaka made the remarks in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt on Monday while reacting to calls for the minister’s resignation.
He commended the minister for checking the incidence of ghost workers in the federal ministries, which he said, had saved billions of naira for the country.
‘’This is a woman who has humbled herself for her country, gave up her international status and working hard to build Nigeria’s economy.
‘’If we must tell ourselves the truth, we must know that our economy was battered before she came in as minister, but today the difference is clear,’’ the broker said.
Uzoamaka, said that the calls for the minister’s resignation was political, adding that Okonjo-Iweala had ushered in innovations in the economy.
He said that the economic reforms could not be a day’s job, but a gradual process that required the collective responsibility of everyone.
The insurance broker called on Nigerians to support the Federal Government in its efforts at introducing robust economic policies.
According to him, it is only this government that has asked commercial banks to give loans to small businesses at low interest rates.
Uzoamaka, however, said that constructive criticisms were needed to enhance economic growth.
