Enugu Police Nab Certificate Syndicate
Three suspected members of a syndicate that specialized in Tertiary School Certificate racketeering have been nabbed by the operatives of the Intelligence Bureau of the Enugu state Police command.
The suspects who gave their names as Ikechukwu Olisa, Nwankwo Anthony and Osinachi Udoka were arrested at the Trans Ekulu axis of the state recently when they were about handing over to one of the victims a Higher National Diploma Certificate (H.N.D) with that of the inscription of the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu.
Our correspondent reports that the arrest of the suspects was based on intelligence reports received by the police in respect of their activities in the state particularly in and around Enugu, the capital city of Enugu state and its environs.
It was also gathered that the syndicate issues to their victims certificate of various schools as well as that of the polytechnics at the cost of N60,000.00 per candidate.
Items recovered from the suspects include Stamps with an inscription “Mechanical Engineering Department of IMT” and that of a Secondary School, six copies of certificate with the inscription of IMT. Other items were four identity cards, 45 files suspected to be owned by the unsuspecting victims (candidates) and some substance suspected to be hard drugs.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ebere Amaraizu (ASP), confirmed the arrest, disclosing that full scale investigations into the matter have already commenced.
The suspects, he further revealed, are now helping the police in their investigations, pointing out that all the suspects will appear in court as soon as police investigations were concluded.
Amaraizu, however, added that the state commissioner of police, Abubakar Adamu Mohammed, has applauded the effort of the gallant operatives just as he appealed to members of the public to partnership with the police by a way of timely and useful information about crime and criminality in their domain so as to make the environment safe and secure.
