Anambra Monitors River Niger Water Level
The Anambra Government says it has begun to monitor the level of the water in River Niger and the creeks in Onitsha and environs.
The Executive Secretary of Anambra State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Dr Justin Ijezie, said on Wednesday in Onitsha that the exercise was part of preemptive measures in anticipation of flooding as predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) early this year.
Ijezie said that the River Niger water level was being monitored through the pillars of the River Niger Bridge and volume of water in its Nwangana creek tributaries within Onitsha metropolis.
He said that the government embarked on the exercise to provide the communities that might be affected by the flood with information on what they needed to do to safeguard their lives and property.
