Assets Declaration: 2000 Risks Prosecution
Over 2000 Public/Civil Servants in Rivers State who failed to fill the assets declaration forms issued by the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) may soon face prosecution.
The Director in charge of States and Local Governments in the Code of Conduct Bureau, Mr. Agom-Tor Ngucha, stated this on Tuesday during a courtesy visit to the Rivers State Head of Service, Barr Samuel LongJohn in his office in Port Harcourt.
Mr. Ngucha who pointed out that assets declaration was mandatory for every public servant, said the main purpose of his visit was to discuss how the prosecution of over 2000 defaulters could be deferred to give them more time to declare their assets considering the difficulties they would face to travel to Abuja to appear before the Code of conduct Tribunal and the penalties if found guilty.
He explained that every public servant is expected to declare his/her assets every four years while Permanent Secretaries are to do so upon assumption and retirement from office since their appointments were based on a tenure.
The CCB Director noted that failure to declare assets had often resulted to the disqualification of retired public servants from seeking elective and appointive positions and solicited the support of the Office of the Head of Service for adequate enlightenment and sensitization campaigns on the need for workers to declare their assets.
