Amaechi Opens Civil Service Week, July 15
All is now set for the formal opening of the 2013 Civil Service Week in Rivers State as the state Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is expected to declare open the celebrations on Monday.
Chairman of the Central Planning Committee of the week, Rufus N. Godwins said in a statement that the celebration that would run between July 14 to 16, has as its theme, “The Public Service and the Age of Open Governance: Giving Voice To the Citizens.”
He called on civil servants in the state to turn out enmass and take advantage of the week to re-appraise their activities for another year as well as celebrate their modest contributions to the development of society.
According to the statement, the week also provides opportunity for learning as a number of thought-provoking lectures would be presented by eminent speakers from within and outside the state.
Some of the lectures, he said, would include, “Between Political and Administrative Directive: The Public Servant Dilemma,” Between the officla secrets Ats and FOI Act: The Required Balance”, Challenges before the Modern Civil Service.”
The statement noted that week would begin with the thanksgiving service at St. Cyprain’s Anglican Church along Hospital Road, Port Harcourt, and would feature merit awards to some serving and retired civil servants, visit to charity home, conclusion of field and track events for men and women, and assorted types of entertainment.
According to the statement, dignitaries from both the public and private sectors would be entertained by the Rivers State Civil Service Choir, a live band and a theatre group from the University of Port Harcourt.
