Church Celebrates 100 Years Of Evangelism
Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has charged Christians to continue to pray for the peace and unity of Rivers State and Nigeria.
The governor who was speaking at the centenary celebration of the Diocese of Niger Delta North (Anglican Communion), St. Thomas Anglican Church, Port Harcourt warned that Nigeria was sitting on the keg of gun powder and needed the prayers of both Christians and Muslims to remain as one indivisible country.
Governor Amaechi who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Sir Owene Wonodi urged Anglican faithful to live up to the tenets of Anglicanism for the church to continue to grow.
The state chief executive stressed the need for members of St. Thomas Anglican Church in Diobu to remain steadfast and congratulated them on sustaining the ideals of the founding fathers for the past 100 years; “Do not run to one Pentecostal Church or the other but ensure the word of God continues as there is a reward for good work. “I appreciate all members of the St. Thomas Anglican Church, Diobu for the achievements so far in the past 100 years,” Amaechi said.
In his sermon, the Dean, Church of Nigeria and Archbishop, Province of Niger Delta, The Most Reverend Ignatius Kattey condemned the rate at which people kill and maim fellow humans and congratulated the church for 100 years of evangelism.
Also speaking, the vicar in-charge of St. Thomas Anglican Church, Venerable Eugene Nicholas, recounted the achievements of the church in 100 years, and reminded Christians that “holiness, righteousness and heaven are the targets and not prosperity which is vanity.”
