Stakeholders Hail Senator’s Free Medical Programme
As the Free Medical Programme of Senator George Sekibo moves to Ikwerre Local Government Area, Monday, beneficiaries and stakeholders have lauded the lawmaker for choosing free medicare as part of his constituency projects.
Head of Agriculture Department in Ikwerre Local Government Council and one of the beneficiaries, Mr. Waribigha Sampson said the programme is unique in its target at the grassroot people of his senatorial district.
“It is a wonderful and commendable initiative and I wish it would be sustained” he said. Another respondent, Dr. Collins Ordu described Senator Sekibo as one of the maximally performing representatives of the people judging from his wonderful performance in other areas.
Dr. Ordu who works with University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital noted that the programme in Ikwerre Local Government Area, recorded an average of 100 patients a day which according to him, is a high number that cannot be recorded in most hospitals and commended the senator for having grassroot people of his constituency at heart.
The medical doctor particularly called on other representatives to always carry along the poor grassroot people in their programmes.
Madam Gloria Amadi noted that the free medical progamme had provided her opportunity of treating her eye problems and chronic ailment suffered by her daughter.
The programme manager ‘Key of Life Foundation, Mr. Samuel Dunkan said the awareness given to the progamme had resulted in a large turnout of the people. “The number we receive here on daily basis is more than we expected but we are happy that the people especially the grassroot people are responding very well and we came prepared. We appreciate the large crowd because it gives us opportunity to look at variety of cases and how to respond to them,” he said.
Co-ordinator of the programme, Hon Kelvin Agbam said the outreach is programmed for two months and that the programme moves to Etche Local Government Area by Monday being 17th June at Ndashi Medical Centre, a constituency project of the Senator.

Technology Key to Nigeria’s Socio-Economic Development, Says Computer Scientist
Dr. Legborsi Emmanuel, former state Chairman of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), has emphasized that technology is the sure way for Nigeria’s socio-economic development.
He made this assertion while speaking with newsmen at the sideline of 118th inaugural lecture series of Rivers State University (RSU) held in port Harcourt, wednesday.
He stressed that the lecture, which focused on emerging technology and its impact on the socio-economic development of the country, aligns with the NCS’s economic focus.
He highlighted the importance of building an economy driven by technology, citing the success of the Rivers State Smart Economy policy as an example.
The computer scientist emphasized the need for innovation and doing things differently, asserting that “technology is the only way out” for Nigeria’s development. He praised the lecturer, Professor Mathias Daniel, for exploring the applications of technology in various sectors, including agriculture, industry, transport, and socio-economics.
Dr. Emmanuel underscores the critical role technology plays in driving socio-economic growth and development in Nigeria by leveraging technology, the country can unlock new opportunities and address pressing challenges.
