Group Blasts Former Commissioner
The Emohua Local Government chapter of Ikwerre Youth Movement (IYM) has cautioned Ikwerre politicians against showing disrespect for elders.
The chapter President of the Movement, Hon. Lucky Worlu who said this while reacting to criticism credited to the former Commissioner for Information in Rivers State, Mr. Emma Okah over the recent solidarity visit to the State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Amaechi by Ogbakor Ikwerre Socio-cultural organization, said it was unacceptable in Ikwerreland for youths to insult their elders.
“I want to use this opportunity to call on those who have made themselves available to insulting their elders that it is not an Ikwerre culture”.
Worlu who is also Board Member I of the Rivers State Universal Basic Education (UBE), said that Ogbakor Ikwerre was at Government House to identify with one of its own.
He further said the Ogbakor Ikwerre Socio-Cultural Organisation was the sole legitimate body to speak for the Ikwerre people, noting that the activities of the group transcended party politics.
“Ogbakor Ikwerre is a socio-cultural organisation of Ikwerre people where our elders think of the good and betterment of Ikwerre people. Ogbakor Ikwerre has always stood for the right and development of Ikwerre as an ethnic group”, he said.
He described those criticising the solidarity visit as Abuja based politicians and advised them to come home and join in building the state.
