Fire Guts Tyre Ware-House In PH
The prompt intervention of fire fighters from the Rivers State Fire Service last Friday averted a fire disaster that occurred at No 17 Echue street in Diobu, Port Harcourt.
The fire which started from a motor tyre ware-house at about 3:00pm that fateful day took a team of the Rivers State Fire Service officials about two hours to bring under control.
An eye-witness and tenant of the 2-storey building, Mr ThankGod Achu who spoke to The Tide at the scene of the incident said he was in his room when he observed an emission of smoke.
On trying to know the source of the smoke, Mr Achu said he discovered it was from a tyre ware-house, adding, “ at that point, I raised alarm that attracted my co-tenants and passers by who immediately called the state fire service. The landlord of the adjoining building, No 15 Echue Street, Mr Clement Okeke blamed the incident on the way the electrification system of the ware-house was run and called for a re-run of the wires. The son of the laudlord of the building, Barrister Emmanuel Chioma also aligned with the view of Mr Okeke when he said, “I believe it was an electrical spark”, as power was restored after three days of black out in the area, adding that the fire started from a tyre packing store.
