Health Educators Reposition For Quality Control
The 18th National Conference of the Nigerian Association of Health Educators which held at Abakaliki on Thursday June 6, 2013 has ended with Health and Human Kinetics Educators, Public Health Practitioners, Sociologists, Psychologists, Anthropologists, Climatologists, and Environmentalists exchanging information on Globalization, Health, and its relationships.
The conference with the theme Globalization: Challenges to Health and Innovations was hosted by the Ebonyi State University Abakaliki and attracted participants from far and near.
President of Nigerian Association of Health Educators (NAHE) and Deputy Vice- Chancellor of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Professor Lawanson Briggs in an interview stated that high quality papers were presented by scholars for the enhancement of knowledge, attitude and practice on Globalization and Health.
He described the Health Educator as a Globalist, someone who thinks in terms of the well being of the world as a whole adding that the implications of Globalization interventions topped the agenda of the conference.
Professor Briggs thanked the Board of Trustees for the support NAHE has received over the years and for making it possible for NAHE to register with the Corporate Affairs Commission pointing out that to be a practicing Health Educator in Nigeria one must be a registered and certified member of NAHE as it calls for quality control in the profession.
The conference afforded participants the opportunity to provide questions, answers and solutions on how best to address the challenges of Globalisation and health, and also promote interdisciplinary approach to globalisation and health.
The mandates of NAHE alongside other relevant organizations are to promote Health education at all levels of the Educational strata and in the community, service delivery and advocacy.
