NYCN Wades Into NURSS Leadership Crisis
The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Rivers State, has set up a nine man transition committee for The National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS)
In a communiqué made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt, the council said that the setting up was in line with article 10.8 subsection”e” of the constitution of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, in adopting a “Doctrine of Necessity” to oversee the transition of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS).
According to the communiqué jointly signed by the State Chairman. Kingsley Ibanichuka and Public Relations Officer, Kingsley Adoni Pepple, the nine man transition committee setup for the sole task of conducting free and fair elections into the offices of the leadership of the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS).
It also said that the committee which has its membership drawn from the seven ethnic blocks of NURSS, with two coordinators, will be headed by ThankGod Amadi Bekweri.
Other members include Idrs CIA Sukubo Asoh Bushi Kingsley, Boma Brown, Boma Jeremiah, Wisdom Azubuike, Kelvin Nwigbo an Godsend Elenwa.
The release said that “the coordinators are to serve supervisory purposes as eyes of the State Youth Council, while the students shall be allowed to take charge of the administration of the transition process in accordance with NURSS Constitution.
“It further said that, the Transition Committee is given a time frame not exceeding three weeks to conduct elections for the union and submit its report to the State Youth Council and advised all factions of NURSS to desist from all unilateral action and cooperate with the committee.
It would be recalled that the National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) has been without a leadership since the expiration of the tenure of Comrade Nwoloye Wormate.
