RSG Plans Mother, Child Hospitals
Construction works on the new two Mother and Child hospitals proposed by Rivers State Government will commence next month, Governor Chibuike Amaechi has said.
The Governor made the disclosure when he played host to Rotary International District 9140 led by its Governor, Onyebuchi Onuoha yesterday in Government House, Port Harcourt.
He said though Rotary had hesitated to partner with government in the building of the hospital, the state government finally got the assistance of the Niger Delta Development Commission(NDDC) as the two hospitals will be sited at the former UPTH compound in Town axis, and the other in Air force in Port Harcourt.
Amaechi, who was full of praises for the humanitarian body on their assistance during the flood disaster last year said, “ the Rivers State Government is ready to partner with you in any field, and I want you to identify the field even though most people will not support me that it is not the way to govern, because sometimes you look at the system, you look at government and see that they lack capacity.’’
The Rivers State governor argued that bodies like Rotary can help strengthen good governance by contributing their quota in development issues, adding that, “ government is very willing to partner with you to develop Rivers State’’.
He believed that when bodies support government they help strengthen governance and build institutions.
Earlier, Governor of District 9140 of Rotary, Onyebuchi Onuoha intimated the governor that the body was in the state to assess its activities especially those in the district covering 11 states in the country in line with its theme,” Peace through Service’’, stating that so far, the results have been impressive.
He assured that Rotary will continue to pursue the dream of eradicating polio in tandem with its vision, “ End Polio Now In Nigerian.’’
Against this backdrop, Onuoha promised that the body will join hands with Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) to ensure that the fight against polio is pursued to veritable conclusion.
The Rotary governor also congratulated the state chief executive over the victory of Super Eagles at the Nations Cup, applauding him for his support to the Eagles.
He thanked the governor for supporting the body.
