TUC To Raise Unionism Standard
The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Rivers chapter, has said it would raise the quality of trade unionism in the state to meet international standard.
The state Chairman of the congress, Mr Chika Onuegbu, said this in an interview in Port Harcourt. Wednesday, that in order to achieve the objective and to further educate the citizens, the congress had conducted series of training for staff and was planning to build a union that would leverage on technology, especially the internet. ·
“So, we want to modernise TUC in Rivers State after the European trade union congress; after the international trade union congress. We are saying this because we want a trade union in Rivers state that will leverage on technology. We’ve come to think that when people come to see union from a point of view of philosophy; when they appreciate the reason they should support us; when they understand how far our working with them can change the society for good; people will work with us”, he said.
“And when we work with people, the sky will be our limit. But, if we as a people do not overcome a fight against corruption; we will not win the fight against poverty, we will not win the fight against insecurity; we will not win the fight against unemployment. Of course, we will not succeed in nation building; it means looking at the welfare of our member and our activities in terms of public policy, in terms of advocacy, in term of propagating good governance,’’ Onuegbu added.
He noted that the Federal Government’s Transformation Agenda could be achieved if Nigerians shun corruption
