Akinola Tasks Humanity On Christ’s Birth
A retired primate of the Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, Peter Akinola, has called on humanity to accept the light that Jesus Christ brought to the world in order to come out of darkness and experience the joy and peace that his birth signifies.
The clergy man made the call at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Opobo Town, in a sermon at a thanksgiving service by the family of the former deputy governor of Rivers State, Sir G. T. G. Toby to honour God for restoring the health of their mother, Dame Christy Toby.
Also speaking, the Deputy Governor, Engr Tele Ikuru who represented the governor said that everything that happens successfully to man is by God and thanksgiving is a way of boasting of God’s name and His benevolence and to say that those with God cannot fail.
The governor said, “Wherever he served, he left a trail of blessing. He also stood for righteousness, he is a man of thrust and those who stand with God cannot fail.
The governor assured the people that before the end of the second quarter of the year, the unity road would have reached Opobo town, calling on the people to be more prayerful.
In his remarks, Sir G. T. G. Toby said the thanksgiving is to show appreciation to God for the life of their wife, mother and sister, Dame Christy Toby from all the health challenges she faced and to use the opportunity to raise funds through friends for the work of God in the church.
Speaking, chairman of Andoni Local Government Area, Sir Orom Nte Ereforokuma, who also represented the member representing Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Dakuku Peterside, commended Sir and Dame Toby for their contributions to the upliftment of humanity, expressing delight in their fervent attitude towards issues affecting mankind and God’s kingdom.
Also speaking, Amanyanabo of Opobo, King Dandeson Douglas Jaja, said “today is a day to be proud of our own, the Toby family,” noting that Sir Gabriel Toby and his family have contributed immensely to the church and to the Opobo nation.
“Toby has added value to the worship of God, expressing optimism that the year 2013 will be better than the previous years,” he added.
