Speaker Condemns Kidnap Of Prof Okonjo-Iweala
The Speaker of Delta House of Assembly, Mr Victor Ochei, on Monday condemned the kidnap of Prof. Kamene Okonjo, the mother of the Finance Minister, Dr Ngozi Okojo-Iweala.
Okonjo was kidnapped at her residence in Ogwuashi-Uku in Aniocha Local Government Area of the state on December 9.
Reacting to the incident, Ochei said in Asaba that it was a sad episode and appealed to the kidnappers to release the octogenarian unhurt. He expressed confidence that the security agencies were already on top of the matter.
The speaker noted that it was the responsibility of the government to ensure safety of lives and property of its citizens, adding that the authorities were not relenting on its fight against kidnapping and other crimes in the state.
