Ignatius Ajuru Varsity Gets New Rules
The Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE), Rumuolumeni, Rivers State now has a new
University status.
The status is all about a set of rules
and regulations that would effectively govern the administration of the
institution such as the appointment of
Vice Chancellor, staff discipline and financial regulations among others.
It woud be recalled that Ignatius Ajuru
University of Education attained a university status in 2009 following a law
passed by the State House of Assembly and assented by Governor Chibuike Rotimi
Amaechi but has been operating with its former status as College of Education.
Speaking at the unveiling and signing
of the new status held at the university’s auditorium Tuesday, the
Pro-Chancellor and the Chairman of the school’s governing council, Dr. Dominic
Anucha said “the collection of the new status of the university underscores the
commitment of the council to ensure that the university becomes the best in the
country”.
Dr. Anucha, a former deputy governor in
the state averred that with the signing of these collections of principles and
rules” the institution has fully attained University status and called on the
management of the institution to ensure that the new status was implemented for
the development of the institution.
Also speaking on behalf of the council
members, Iroanwusi Godwin (Jnr.), noted that the new status was a landmark
achievement by the council adding that issues relating, to the governance of
the schools welfare and effective management of the school has been addressed
in the new status.
He urged the leadership of the
institution to ensure that the rules and regulations were followed accordingly
noting that the problem of every public institution in the society was
implementation.
In their separate speeches, Dr. Vincent
Asuru Representative Senate and Dr. Jane Onwugbuta, Dean, Faulty of Sciences
thanked the leadership of the university for approving the new status adding
that it would serve as a turning point in the institution.
Earlier in an interview with newsmen,
the Acting Vice Chancellor, Ignatius Ajuru University of Education (IAUE),
Prof. Rosemund Yienye Green Osahogulu said the signing of the status was a
great success achieved by the leadership of the institution, adding that the
new status provides among other things how the Vice Chancellor of the
institution will be appointed, staff discipline and financial regulations.
She assured of the readiness of the
institution’s management to ensure full implementation of the new status.

RIVCHPP Set To Take Health Insurance Scheme To Tertiary Institutions In Rivers State
Rivers State Contributory Health Protection Programme (RIVCHPP), the state health insurance agency, is set to take the health insurance scheme to schools, especially tertiary institutions, in the state.
This disclosure was made by the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of RIVCHPP, Dr. Vetty Rolegherighan Agala, when she led a team from RIVCHPP on an advocacy visit to the office of the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Education on Friday, 16th January 2026.
Dr. Agala, who solicited authorisation from the Ministry for RIVCHPP to write to the institutions under Ministry’s mandate so as to begin enrolment of students in the various schools , said that for the health insurance agency to expand universal health coverage of the state, then students need to be enrolled into the programme.
RIVCHPP’s Executive Secretary announced that the agency has also started talks with the State branch of Nigeria Association of Proprietors of Private Secondary Schools (NAPPSS) to ensure that no one in the state is left out from having the opportunity of accessing quality healthcare services without passing through financial hardship.
Dr. Agala also commended the innovative policies that the Permanent Secretary have brought to bear towards improving the educational exploits in the state, saying that the changes align to the interest and mandate of Governor Siminialayi Fubara stance on education.
RIVCHPP’s Executive Secretary appreciated the Permanent Secretary for giving the team audience, pledging her team’s dedication and commitment to clients’ satisfaction, calling on schools to embrace the S-SHIP package dedicated for the well-being of students in Rivers State.
In her remarks and response, the Permanent Secretary, Rivers State Ministry of Education, Dr.(Mrs. ) Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu, who warmly welcomed the RIVCHPP team, promised to share with and disseminate all information about RIVCHPP to all public schools in the state so that the schools will be willing to give RIVCHPP opportunity to sensitise them on what RIVCHPP is all about and the benefits of signing up with RIVCHPP.
Dr. Uzoma-Nwogu advised RIVCHPP to be proactive and consistent in the mandate of providing affordable and quality health care to Rivers residents.
