Be City Builders, RSG Urges PH Residents
The Rivers State Government has advised residents of Port
Harcourt City to see themselves as co-city builders by protecting the emerging
beauty and aesthetics of both the old and new Port Harcourt city.
This government says, is the only way city dwellers could
justify the enormous resources invested in the sector by the Governor Chibuike
Amaechi-led administration in the state.
In a state-wide
broadcast to the people of the state to mark this year’s habitat Day on October
1, the Commissioner for Urban
Development and Physical Planning, Dr Tammy Danagogo, restated government resolve to not only restore the old Port
Harcourt City to its past glory but also to pursue the Greater Port Harcourt
Development project.
The commissioner warned residents against encroaching on
public property particularly gardens, parks and public right of way, as such
acts would be considered sabotage, and sanctioned accordingly.
He solicited the support and cooperation of residents in
efforts to redeem the dwindling image of the Garden City, saying that
government alone cannot build a befitting state except the city dwellers sees
himself as a co-builder and join’s in the development project.
The Theme of this year’s celebration is “Changing Cities,
Building Opportunities”
