Amaechi Wants More Women Perm Secs
Governor Chibuike Amaechi has canvassed more women presence
in the top echelon of the civil service in Rivers State.
Amaechi, who made his position public while swearing-in
three new permanent secretaries into office in Government House, Port Harcourt,
posited of plans to appoint new three female permanent secretaries by next
year, adding,” we have to give them more opportunities, but what I think that
can happen is next year, I will on my own appoint three plus the one the
cabinet here approves for me, without necessarily having to go through the
exams.
He insisted that there was need to shore up the male
imbalance in the civil service, stressing so that we don’t have an all male
civil service in management and that is what we would do.”
Amaechi congratulated and urged them to do their best in
their new office.
Speaking on behalf of his colleagues after the swearing-in
ceremony, one of the permanent secretaries, Dr. Rogers Ogbonnda Weli, thanked
the governor for approving their appointment.
He assured that they would use their wealth of experience to
improve the state civil service and promote government policies and programmes.
Their appointment is coming barely two weeks after the
governor swore-in a new head of service, Barrister Samuel Long-John.
The new permanent secretaries include, Mr Urange Emmanuel
Sunday of the Ministry of Agriculture, Victor Mangibo for Ministry of Sports
while Dr. Weli serves in Health Management Board.
