Andoni, Opobo/Nkoro Economic Summit Gets UN Backing
The Andoni-Opobo/Nkoro Economic Zone Development Summit has
received the endorsement of the United Nations (UN).
The chairman, Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro Economic Zone Foundation,
Engr Emiyarei Ikuru, who said this during an engagement session with
Andoni Local Government stakeholders
last week in Port Harcourt, said that the United Nations Under
Secretary-General, Mr Carlos Lopez will lead the pack of other
distinguished speakers to the summit.
Engr Ikuru also said that the summit, which holds from
the 4th-5th of October, 2012 is also
receiving the assistance of Hybrid College, United Kingdom and the United
Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).
He said that the event is meant to spotlight to the world
the rich economic potentials in the zone with a view to attracting investors to
the area.
The Foundation Chairman decried the neglect of the area in
terms of infrastructural development, in spite of its abundant human and
natural resources.
According to him, the constituency is sitting on abundant oil and gas resources, but is not
getting the full benefits of the resources.
Engr Ikuru said that the proposed summit will be looking at
oil and gas tourism and the agricultural sector, and stressed the need for the
people to key into the programme. While stressing that the situation will provide
the platform to engage the government and other development partners in the
development of the zone, he urged the people to spread the message in their
various communities.
Earlier, the Foundation Secretary, Mr Mike Igonima said that
the event would provide the required data necessary for the development of
Andoni and Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Areas.
