NDDC To Sanction Erring Contractors
The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), last Tuesday said it would sanction any engineer who failed to adhere to job specifications in the execution of NDDC projects.
The Managing Director of the commission, Dr Chris Oboh, made the statement when officials of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) visited him in Port Harcourt.
Oboh said the NDDC could not achieve its mandate of fast-tracking sustainable development in the region without the expertise and commitment of engineers.
He urged the society to evolve ways of sanctioning its members who failed to follow the ethics of the profession in job execution.
According to him, the commission looks forward to when the society will begin to sanction members, who do not live up to expectation.
Oboh lamented the rate at which road portions were failing, saying that it was “becoming very embarrassing’’.
“We are willing to partner your society, but please look for a way to discipline erring contractors who deliver poor jobs,’’the NDDC boss said.
Speaking earlier, the chairman of the Society, Mr Denis Dannia, commended the NDDC for supporting the NSE.
He thanked the commission for its assistance to technical programmes of the NSE.
