Amaechi Pledges More Support For Army, Others
Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State, has assured the army and other security agencies in the state of more support to boost their efficiency.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Feyi George, Amaechi made the pledge in Port Harcourt on Friday while laying the foundation stone of soldiers’ residential quarters.
Amaechi said that the five residential blocks of 50 flats was the government’s way of appreciating the army for its effectiveness in fighting crime.
He said that the State Government was ready to support the army and other security agencies in the state to ensure that they were repositioned to fight crimes.
“We are aware that without peace, development will be difficult; that is why we want you soldiers to be comfortable.”
The governor promised that the project would be delivered expeditiously, and in accordance with specification.
Earlier, the GOC, 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Oluwasheun Oshinowo, had commended the State Government for the gesture.
He called on other stakeholders in the security sector to emulate the Rivers governor’s example by providing support to soldiers.
Also speaking, the Commander, 2 Brigade of Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, Brig.Gen. Tukur Buratai, said the Rivers Government had assisted the army in several ways.
“We have three school buildings ongoing to serve the barrack community; we have had donation of facilities too, and we are very thankful,” he said.
