Reps Want Release Of 15 LGAs Allocations
The House of Representatives last Thursday called on the Federal Government to direct the payment of the monthly federal allocations to the 15 local government areas placed under emergency rule.
The House said the release of the allocations would help the affected local governments to pay the salaries of their workers.
The resolution followed a motion moved by Rep. Bitrus Kaze (PDP- Plateau) which was unanimously adopted without debate when put to vote by the Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Tambuwal.
The House had in an earlier resolution on March 15, 2012, urged the Federal Government to pay the monthly federal allocations to the 15 local government areas.
It said the allocations included all outstanding statutory funds standing to the credit, and payable to the 15 local government areas affected by the declaration of emergency rule pursuant to the provisions of Section 162 (5) of the 1999 Constitution.
The presidency had on Dec. 31, 2011, proclaimed emergency rule in 15 local government areas of Borno, Niger, Plateau, and Yobe.
Moving the motion earlier, Kaze observed that the relevant agencies had yet to comply with the earlier resolution of the House regarding the said payment.
He urged the relevant agencies to comply with the resolution.
Meanwhile, the House has mandated its Committee on National Security to invite the National Security Adviser and all other Security Chiefs to review security strategies in the country.
This followed a motion moved by Rep. Ali Yakubu (PDP-Yobe) on insecurity in Potiskum, Yobe State.
The Speaker referred the motion to the relevant committees for further input.
However, a motion on the ongoing strike by doctors in Lagos was stepped down, when some lawmakers observed that the issue was not within the purview of the House of Representatives.
They said the matter was a state affair which should be left to the state House of Assembly to handle.
