Apiti Rumueme Tasks Chiefs On Peaceful Co-existence
The Paramount Ruler and President-in-Council, Rumueme Council of Chiefs, His Royal Highness Omunakwe Nsirim (MON) Apiti Rumueme, has called on chiefs in Rumueme Kingdom to use their positions to ensure peace within their domains and in Rivers State at large.
The royal father gave the call during an induction ceremony of newly capped chiefs and coronation of chiefs held in his palace over the weekend.
He said the hallmark of traditional rulership was the preservation of people’s culture and consistency in maintainance of peaceful co-existence within and outside their domains.
The Apiti stressed that their choice was based on acceptable leadership qualities and warned that the council would have no option than to remove them if they compromised the standard of the council.
“Neither money nor any kind of inducement can influence my council to give out chieftaincy titles to anybody no matter how highly placed in the society,” he stated.
He advised the chiefs and title holders not to allow their personal business or commitments to compromise their traditional roles especially on the issue of peace, stressing that as custodians of the people’s culture, they were expected to be exemplary.
Responding on behalf of the new chiefs, Chief Arthur Felix Jacobs representing Alege community thanked the paramount ruler for accepting them into the council and promised to maintain the sterling qualities which qualified them into the council and to also place the issue of peace topmost in their dealings.
Earlier, the Chairman, Rumueme Council of Chiefs and Head of Oro-Akwor community, Chief Larry Nyeche (JP) said that leadership was from God and urged the chiefs to be disciplined, transparent and always maintain impeccable character.
By so doing, he said, they would please God and continue to enjoy the respect of those they represent.
“Attitude is the power of leadership and true leaders work for the good of others. You must be disciplined, under control and always be careful of what you say and what not to say at any point in time,” he admonished.
