NDDC Branded Rice Ready, June
The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Christian, Oboh, says the Commission’s branded rice would hit the nation’s market by the end of June.
Dr. Oboh who gave the indication during a courtesy call on him in his office in Port Harcourt recently by officials of Braced Commission said the NDDC was working in partnership with a consultant to accomplish the June target.
“We have a target to ensure that NDDC branded rice is in the market by June, we have a consultant who is working on the rice plant to ensure that it is running”.
He said the Commission was passonate in redressing the insecurity food and Niger Delta in Particular and that there was budgetary provision for the establishment of rice processing plants across the region.
“By the time we do this, we will be providing both cheap food and employment for our people”, even as he promised a number of high profile projects in the Niger Delta region within the next ten years.
“We are looking at mega projects littered all over the region in the next ten years, we want to connect our communities with good roads not just one kilometer roads”.
He assured that NDDC would collaborate and partner with stakeholders in order to assist in meeting set targets.
While expressing the openness of the Commission to constructive criticism, the NDDC boss said “we need people to tell us what we are not doing right and what we can do if well, not just to dismiss NDDC entirely that there is nothing good there”, he remarked.
Earlier, the Director General of Braced Commission, Amb. Joe Keshi said his group was at the NDDC to explore areas of collaboration as according to him, he was not mindful of the importance partnering with the NDDC would bring to the two bodies.
He revealed that the Braced Commission which was made up of the six South-South States of the Niger Delta included Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Cross River, Edo and Delta States.

FG, Ogun Distribute Inputs To 2,400 Farmers
Federal Government and the Ogun State Government, on Wednesday, distributed farm inputs to farmers as part of effort to address food security challenge.
The State Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Toyin Ayo-Ajayi, during the flag-off ceremony of Inputs Redemption Under The National Agricultural Growth Scheme-Agro Pocket (NAGS-AP), in Ogun State, disclosed that beneficiaries of the gesture were primarily rice, maize and cassava farmers across the State.
Ayo-Ajayi commended the Ogun State Government for partnering with the government at the centre for the effort in supporting farmers with inputs that would bring about yieldings for local consumption and likely exportation.
She noted that government is supporting rice, cassava and maize farmers with inputs worth N212,000; N189,000 and N186,000 respectively.
The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Kehinde Jokotoye, who represented the Commissioner in the Ministry, Bolu Owotomo, stated that traditional farmers are critical in food production, hence the need to encourage and support them with inputs that would bring about desired results during harvesting.
Owotomo said: “Let us make good use of this opportunity, so that the success of this phase will make farmers benefit more from the state and federal governments of Nigeria.”
Earlier, State Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Oluwatoyin Ayo-Ajayi, appreciated the present administration for partnering with the federal government for the initiative, adding that the programme is designed to support farmers at the grassroots level in cassava, rice and maize with inputs such as, seeds, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, to boost their production and enhance their livelihood.
