Monarch Charges RSG On Abonnema/ Obonoma Bridge Project
Amayanabo of Abonnema, HRH King Disrael Bob-Manuel, has made a passionate appeal to the Rivers State Government to complete the abandoned Abonnema/Obonoma bridge project.
King Bob-Manuel made the plea when Governor Chibuike Amaechi represented by the Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon.Leyii Kwanee paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Abonnema, Akuku-Toru Local Government Area, as part of the polio eradication camapign at the weekend.
The Abonnema monarch lamented that the project had suffered neglect over the years, and expressed the hope that the Governor would resuscitate it considering his developmental disposition.
Aside the bridge, King Bob-Manuel called for adequate staffing and equipping of the Abonnema General Hospital, pointing out that currently the facility was underutilised, “ the government should evolve measures to ensure that the hospital is fully functional so that the elderly and the sick in this area would adequately be taken care of, “ he stressed.
King Gbobo Bob-Manuel further used the occasion to seek for government support towards the expansion and building of a befitting palace
He commended the Governor for his developmental strides in the health and education sectors, while lauding him for his recent recall of the suspended 11 council chairmen in the state.
The traditional ruler assured the Governor that the chiefs and community leaders in the area would do everything possible to ensure the success of the anti-polio campaign, as he expressed appreciation for the choice of the area for the kick-off of the exercise.
Later on, Chairman of the Local Government Area, Hon. Theodore Georgewill remarked that the area was in dire need of pottable water.
Hon.Georgewill lamented that effects of oil spills on the environment, arguing that the activities of oil exploration firms have seriously affected the livelihood of the people.
He called on the government to assist the council in the provision of water in order to avert epidemic and other health problems in the area.
