Civil Servants List Gains of New Minimum Wage
Civil Servants in Rivers are full of praises for Gov. Chibuike Amaechi for reaching an agreement with the workers in the state to pay them the new national minimum wage.
Our correspondent reports that the issue of the new wage had been a long drawn battle between civil servants and governors of some states.
He further reports that Gov. Amaechi had just ended negotiation with labour to pay the new wage beginning from October, 2011 across board.
A civil servant, Mr Francis Abel, from one of the state ministries, in an interview with NAN in Port Harcourt on Friday showered encomiums on Amaechi for agreeing to pay them the new wage.
He said the gesture was a welcome development.
Describing the Rivers state governor as a labour, friendly one, Abel said that, civil servants in the state “ can now cope with the present socio-economic demands.”
Another civil servant, Mrs Franca Igoma, said “ the gesture will go a long way in improving the lives of workers and their families.”
“ We hail Gov. Amaechi for being responsive to the yearnings of the masses, he has done well, we urge him to continue this way, we pray for his success, “ She said.
Mr Goodwill Yeribo, another civil servant said “Gov. Amaechi’s administration is a purposeful one. He has shown his people that he loves and cares for them, we shall also reciprocate.”
