Association Begins Warning Action, Today
The National President of the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN), Dr Godswill Okara, says the Association will proceed with its five day warning action.
Okara made this known in an interview with newsmen in Abuja on Saturday.
He said: ‘’we want a written commitment from the ministry that stipulates a time of action when our request will be met, because anything not written down does not exist.’’
Okara said the association was asking government to include it in the statutory scheme of work which was enacted in 2001 as well as the enforcement of law regulating the profession.
In July, the AMLSN called for the amendment of Section 1 of the National Health Bill, as the bill does not recognise the existence of professional regulatory laws and statutes in the health industry.
“The bill had prejudiced various relevant existing professionals. We do not want to put anybody at risk. All we are only asking for is what we are entitled to by law; the law should not be subject to negotiation and debate.”
Okara said that while colleagues in other fields have gone on numerous strikes, AMLSN has shown maturity, adding that it may have been perceived as a weakness.
The warning action would begin today and end on December 4.
