Court Remands Man For Possessing Live Ammunition
An Asaba Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered that a 25-year-old man, Mr Benson Udu, be remanded in prison custody for allegedly possessing live ammunition in Asaba.
The accused was arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy, and illegal possession of firearm before Chief Magistrate Sylvester Ehikwe.
The Police Prosecutor, Mr Bassey Eko, told the court that Udu on July 14, at the defunct toll gate in Asaba, conspired with one other person and had in his possession 105 rounds of AK 47 live ammunition.
Eko also told the court that the accused conspired with one other on the same day and place, and had in his possession four empty AK 47 magazines that were prohibited and illegally possessed.
He said that the offence contravened section 3(1) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provision) Act Cap R11 Vol. 14 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
Ehikwe, who did not take the plea of the accused said that the case was beyond the jurisdiction of his court.
He ordered that the duplicate copies of the accused persons’ case file be sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutor (DPP) for advice.
Ehikwe also ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody and adjourned the case till October 30, for mention.
