LASG Hails Rivers On Songhai Farm
The Lagos State Government has said that, the Rivers Songhai farm project at Buneu community in Tai Local Government Area has placed the state ahead its peers in food security and employment generation in the country.
The Lagos State commissioner for Agriculture and Cooperative, Mr. Gbolahan Lawal who said this during a tour on the farm last Saturday also described the project as “climate change smart innovation”.
Mr. Lawal said that he was impressed with the Rivers Songhai farm project, stressing that Lagos state Government would see how the project could be replicated in the state.
“I came here on a tour on the instruction of the Governor of Lagos State Bubatunde Fashola, with what we have seen here today, I’m highly impressed with the Governor of Rivers State Rt. Hon. Amaechi. He’s done very well.
“My prayer is for every successful Government in Rivers State to be able to sustain this dream, because government politics should not be allowed to interfere with what is happening” he said.
The Lagos State Agriculture and Cooperative Commissioner also commended the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) for doing a great job in the state and stressed that the projects being undertaken by the Agency would improve the living standard of the people as well as the economy of the State.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of the Rivers State Sustainable Development Agency (RSSDA) Mr. Noble Pepple said that the Agency was happy that other states in the country are beginning to notice the agricultural development initiatives in the state.
“It is a very encouraging development that other states are beginning to take notice of what we began here as an initiative intended to attract our young men and women into agriculture.
Mr. Pepple however said that the credit goes to the Rivers State Governor Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi whose vision RSSDA is implementing.
The Lagos State Commissioner was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry and other officials of the government.

FG, Ogun Distribute Inputs To 2,400 Farmers
Federal Government and the Ogun State Government, on Wednesday, distributed farm inputs to farmers as part of effort to address food security challenge.
The State Director, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Toyin Ayo-Ajayi, during the flag-off ceremony of Inputs Redemption Under The National Agricultural Growth Scheme-Agro Pocket (NAGS-AP), in Ogun State, disclosed that beneficiaries of the gesture were primarily rice, maize and cassava farmers across the State.
Ayo-Ajayi commended the Ogun State Government for partnering with the government at the centre for the effort in supporting farmers with inputs that would bring about yieldings for local consumption and likely exportation.
She noted that government is supporting rice, cassava and maize farmers with inputs worth N212,000; N189,000 and N186,000 respectively.
The Permanent Secretary in the State Ministry of Agriculture, Mrs Kehinde Jokotoye, who represented the Commissioner in the Ministry, Bolu Owotomo, stated that traditional farmers are critical in food production, hence the need to encourage and support them with inputs that would bring about desired results during harvesting.
Owotomo said: “Let us make good use of this opportunity, so that the success of this phase will make farmers benefit more from the state and federal governments of Nigeria.”
Earlier, State Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Oluwatoyin Ayo-Ajayi, appreciated the present administration for partnering with the federal government for the initiative, adding that the programme is designed to support farmers at the grassroots level in cassava, rice and maize with inputs such as, seeds, pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers, to boost their production and enhance their livelihood.
