Engineers Want Greater Participation In Rivers Monorail
The Nigeria Society of Engineers Rivers State Chapter has expressed the need for Rivers State Government to commit more multi-national firms and the indigeneous private sector in sponsoring the completion of its monorail project before the expiration of Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi’s second tenure in office.
The group, which gave the advice Tuesday through its chairman, Engr. Hilkiah Igoni in Port Harcourt, commended Governor Amaechi for the giant project, saying that it will ease traffic jam in the state capital (Port Harcourt). The chairman used the opportunity to appealed to the state government to involve indigenous engineers through the Nigeria Society of engineers in construction of projects in the state.
He explained that, if the group is contacted to recommend engineers for projects, the issue of quack engineers would be a thing of the past in the building and construction of projects in the state.
He further explained that, the group would be in a better position to give out quality engineers according to the nature of the project involved.
Engr. Igoni expressed commitment of the Nigeria Society of Engineers to rid the profession of quacks. He expressed optimism that in less than five years time, quack engineers would not be found again in the state.
