Commissioner Advises Female Legislators On Women Empowerment
The Commissioner of Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari has enjoined the newly sworn-in women Legislators in the Okrika legislative Assembly, not to leave Okrika women behind in their empowerment programmes.
Speaking during a courtesy call on her by the WALGA women – legislators, Mrs. Semenitari reminded them of the efforts of the women in carrying out door-to-door campaigns during the elections.
She attributed their success at the polls to the efforts of the the wife of the State Governor, Dame Judith Amaechi, adding that the only way to justify the confidence that Her Excellency reposed in them “is to leave Okrika better than you met it.”
The Commissioner emphasised the need to bring the women together to know what they want and include it in their decision making.”
Mrs. Semenitari advised the WALGA female legislators to distinguish themselves in the House, by shunning corruption and insisting on probity, transparency and accountability.
The Information boss also explained that, the emergence of the female Councillors was an eloquent testimony of the efforts of the Nigerian First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, that women should be carried along in Nigerian politics.
She stated that one of the Councilors is from WALGA Ward 1, Dame Jonathan’s Ward, which demonstrates that the 35 per cent affirmative action for women is working right in her home.
In an earlier speech, the Deputy Leader of Okrika House of Assembly, Hon. Agnes Atelibo, congratulated the Commissioner – on her re-appointment as the Commissioner of Information and Communications.
