Ikuru Tasks Journalists On Effective Coverage
The Chairman Local Organising Committee LOC, of the on-going 17th National Sports Festival in Port Harcourt, Engr. Tele Ikuru, has called on journalists in Rivers State to ensure effective reporting of the Garden City Games 2011. The LOC chairman gave the charge during a parley with journalists in Port Harcourt yesterday at the State Secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalist.
While apologising to media practitioners in the state, over shortcomings in media consultations, he tasked newsmen, to use the festival to showcase the beauty and hospitality of Port Harcourt, and Rivers State in general.
He disclosed that journalists based in Rivers State were in a better position to give an accurate report of events during the festival, noting that by these, visitors would see Rivers State through their prism.
The LOC chairman assured that “all necessary arrangements had been put in place to make the fiesta most memorable of all games”.
He called on journalists in the state to be patriotic over the coverage of the Garden City Games, stating that the grand event was an opportunity to serve the state.
He said the LOC was poised to improve on the inadequacies, and called for the co-operation of all stakeholders to ensure the success of the festival.
