A Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court has granted bail to a fraud suspect, Mr. Maxwell Chukwu with the sum of N1 million and a surety resident in the state.
Mr. Chukwu (22) was standing trial on three-court charge of falsification, pretence and stealing.
The police prosecuting officer, Sgt Otuma Bright had told the court that the accused person on 22nd of February, 2011, at Iwofe in Port Harcourt conducted himself in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by presenting himself to be contractor with Shell Company Nigeria knowing to be false, a punishable offence.
He also alleged that the accused on the same date and place obtained the sum of N526,500.00 from one Nyebuchi Amadi with the pretence of given him a job knowing that to be false and punishable offence.
According to the prosecution, the accused also stole N73,700, property of one Nnochire Amadi. He urged the court not to grant the accused bail on the ground that he has no fixed address, adding that he would jump bail if granted.
